Jersey’s own, DJ Alamo sits down for a few with BossLady to talk about his top DJ’s, thoughts on respect and more! Check it out!
Rep ya hood
I’m originally from Brooklyn, NY. East Flatbush that is. I moved to South Jersey when I was 13 and been a Jersey cat ever since. I reside in Willingboro, NJ exit 5 off the turnpike.
Alamo what the fuck is good! I’ve been off my DJ shit lately! The world needs to hear from ya’ll
Hey, I’m good. Just trying to stay relevant in this game of snakes and frauds.
So you just dropped a crazy mixtape. Lot of jersey love on there! How did you decide who was goin on?
Well it was my DJ team from Florida, Sucker Proof DJ’s. They reached out and stated to me that they see my work and asked if I would be interested in showcasing the talent in NJ. I narrowed it down to who puts on beyond Jersey and whose hot now.
You know what I can’t stand? When you ask people whose makin’ noise in Jersey or who’s their top 5 in Jersey they always name artists in North Jersey. Now you’re down South Jersey, who got it poppin down there?
Big OOH, Porta Rich, Broadway, Flash, T.Dot, Apollo, Ap The Mayor, Dre, Skuffs, Bunji, Tiki, Cota, Sour D, and Balboa just to name a few.
Now you got your show on JahYummy.com, you be goin in! Not only with the music selection but your interviews be having me buggin’ (laughs). How long you been doing the show?
Shout out to Rob, Nigel, Dre, and Eli. They brought me in and asked if I was interested in having my own radio show. I said hell yeah! So after that, I never looked back. It’s the biggest thing that has come tome thus far cuz’ I speak to the world. www.JahYummy.com www.JahYummyRadio.com Mon 8-10 and Sun 4-7 every week! Tune in people!
Alot of artists are trying to get up there to that show and get an Alamo interview! What’s the requirements?!
Well, it’s very easy. I only ask people personally that I see working, and really hungry. But we help promote the underdog so if you’re looking for promotion, we can help. And yes, we charge for promotion, that’s what it is at the end of the day. Hit up Rob at stylze.jahyummy@gmail.com, he’ll help you get that DJ Alamo interview.
Who you got in heavy rotation right now?
Big OOH, Jaybezel, Tone Trump, Nipsey Hussle, Money Malc, April, Uncle Murda, T.Dot, 50 Cent, Nas, Jay-Z, Kanye, J. Cole, Drake, Meek Mill, Future, 2Chainz, Jeezy, Jim Jones, French Montana, Fred The Godson, Flash, and Mel Alston Jr. just to name a few.
You’re also a beast with gettin’ the club poppin’, have a bitch sweat a doobie out in a NY minute! Where u spinnin at?
I’m in different spots, but I’ve been at the 40/40 club in AC, Harrah’s Pool, Savoy South Jersey, D’s Place, Jersey Girls, Up North, and a host of north Jersey spots and NY spots. Nothing home base though.
Ok I ask all my DJ’s this. Do you feel like DJ’s should get paid to spin indie music? Why or why not
Yes because if you’re gonna pay Flex, Clue, Self, Cosmic Kev, Drama, or whoever for spins, why not hit the DJ that’s indie like you instead of someone that’s popular and really don’t even like your music? Or they’re already rich and could care less because the big artists got them.
Who’s some other DJ’s you fuck wit?
I respect DJ Envy, DJ Drama, DJ Nasty, DJ Rock On, DJ Nophrillz, DJ Ykcor, Fleet DJ’s, DJ Ace, DJ Wes Will, DJ Newera, DJ Wallah, DJSNS, DJ Jayski, DJ Radio, DJ Kayslay, and DJ Smoke.
I know you fuck with the Philly scene heavy too. How does it differ from Jersey?
It’s very different because most Philly artists got bigger buzzes, but it’s about the grind.
I heard an artist say “Respect goes both ways. If the DJ’s want respect they need to respect the artist.” What you say to that?
I agree to a certain degree. What these artists don’t realize is that they need a DJ more than anything who will hear it.
Final note?
