Grindahz sits down with the beautiful and talented Daisy Grant. Check out this interview and learn a little about who she really is.
Rep your hood
Newark,NJ b.k.a The BRICKS, and I’m still right here! I love my city!
Shout out to Brick City. Crazy talent all over the Garden State! Daisy, you have an amazing voice, I’m floored by your writing ability as well. Where did this all start for you?
Well, my mom’s fondest memories of me, I was in Pre-Kindergarden and I was often put in time out, and in time out, I would make up songs and sing. Time out seemed to be my time to shine (laughs), so from the very beginning I was a creator/writing/arranger/vocalist
(laughs) I can see you now, that sounds so “Daisy!” As lovely as your voice is, we had a conversation last year and you said you’d rather write! We’re headed into 2012, you still feeling the same way?
I can’t quite remember me saying I’d rather write because singing was always number one on my priority list. But today I enjoy every aspect of creating a record. The best way for people to get to know me is through song, so writing my music has been the easiest way for me to connect with my fans and supporters!
Daisy, you don’t even smoke! Maybe you weren’t in a good mood that day (laughs). But I’m so glad to hear that! You’ve worked with a lot of up and coming and even some major artist. If it was ONE artist you could do a duet with right now who would it be?
Yes I have worked with a lot of artist, a lot of rap/hip-hop artist and to name a few: Bless Mcfly (Secret Society), Sam Scarfo, Chavs, the list is very long at least 15-20 Jersey artists alone. I got my first placements with the Lyricist/Rapper/MC Madskillz aka SKILLZ. I appeared on his last album “The World Needs More SKILLZ”. There are a few artist I would love to do a duet with but first on my list would have to be Al-Green. He’s My Favorite singer.
WOW! Would have never thought you’d name Al Green. Let’s get into this single Mr. 9 to 5! Yea, my anthem. What was the thought process when putting that track together?
The record is produced by JDOT of the BeatBoyz. He and I grew up together so we’ve been performing in school shows and music videos since middle school. So it was only right to work together on a Record. He also has a rap feature on “MR 9 TO 5.” The record was pretty simple, I had the concept already and when I got to the studio and he played that track, instantly 9 to 5 fit and we rocked with that. I had a good time creating that record. It felt good so I knew it would transcend to the people the exact same way I felt recording it.
That it did! Let’s talk relationships for a minute. You’re um, pretty opinionated to say the least. I’d like to say a realist! Do you honestly believe women should compromise things they wouldn’t normally to keep their man happy?
(laughs) Especially in a union, but I believe men should do the same and in any long lasting relationship both parties learn to compromise and break old habits/routines to make their partner happy
Hmm I guess. I’m just not ready to take it in the …. never mind! The fellas and lesbians want to know if you’re taken.
Well those compromises you’re talking about are definitely not the ones I’d be talking (laughs). Relationship status: For me to know (laughs). I have a very special person in my life for sure but I am not married
Good answer! Outside of your family, who’s some of your biggest influences?
Wow, to actually think about it I don’t have any big influences outside of my family because my grandmother is one of THEE BEST singers I know.
Well I won’t put you on blast, but you come from a musically inclined family!
And My family is heavily involved in the music industry so I only want to keep the music name going.
Outside of yourself, who do you enjoy listening to?
(laughs) I don’t listen to music a lot surprisingly. I haven’t been getting the feeling I use to get as a kid from music anymore. But I recently got Tyrese’s new album “OPEN INVITATION” and I can listen to that ALL DAY LONG NON-STOP!
Really? I gotta check that out. This Christmas album though, its CLASSIC and TIMELESS!
Thank you! I did “My Christmas Project” last year but many people are just now hearing it and enjoying it.
I’m sure it will be checking on for years to come! But um, when can we expect your album?
There will be a mixtape first and I’m working on it now. God willing it will be released in 2012
We need that though. The collabo’s are like a tease. Who are your top 3 producers/production teams you’d like to or have worked with?
First and foremost definitely goes to The Hitterz (Shaliek Rivers and Cashus Cream) they have been great friends and great writing partners to work with. We’ve co-written over 50 records together. One of the records “SPOKE TOO SOON” is currently Shaliek Rivers’ single featuring FRED THE GODSON. I also love working with Super Producer/Songwriter/Singer K2. We haven’t done 50 records but the records we do have are phenomenal. He featured and produced my Christmas Single “JINGLE BELLZ”
Nice. What can we expect in 2012 from Ms. Daisy Grant?
Definitely More music, more performances and hopefully a got damn deal (laughs). All I want to keep is God favor.
Final note?
I’d like to thank you and Grindahz for this interview. Also, I want to send a big shout out to ALL my fans and supporters, you guys keep me encouraged and inspired. The QUEEN is here to stay! MUAH!
She who wears the crown….Salute
