Interview With Nina Foxx
Nina Foxx:
The Head Bitch In Charge…Straight No Chaser
Interview with B. McKay
Nina Foxx: Well I’m from Jersey City NJ I rep the 201 to the fullest but I also spent half of my life In Florida so I rep that 305 as well.
Really? Interesting, I didn’t know that! Well I’ve been hearing your name like crazy especially this past year 2010! So you’ve been on my Radar. Who is “The HBIC”?
The HBIC started out as a nickname to be honest, Back in 99 I didn’t have a fairy tale life and I hustled. I ran blocks and most of the time I was the only female so the niggas would call me HBIC. In 2010 I actually turned the nickname into a business with the help of some family and friends and we are strictly into artist development promotion which I feel is lacking in today’s music. We currently have 2 singer/songwriters were working with and a male Mc which is surprising being that our name is HBIC. (laughs)
I can dig it! You def got your city behind you and respect from the streets! Does the rap game remind you of the street game?
Yes it does because both the street and the music biz can be very cut throat, Its every man for them self and even though you might be on the same block or team with a person doesn’t mean they have your best interest at heart which I believe is the problem with east coast music. Everyone wants to be #1 instead of supporting the cause so we all eat and that’s one thing I love about the south movement.
This is true. What made you focus on your music career up here opposed to the south where you KNOW they show hell love?
This is home, to me its only right to begin my journey where I began my life. I feel its just not about love but quality of music. I want people to support and show me love because my music is hot and they feel my movement and not just cause we rep the same state. And being home where its hard to break into the music scene just helps me for when I venture away from home.
I respect that. I see your doing more than just rapping though.
Yes, I actually went to IAR for audio engineering which started out of frustration of having to chase people down to record so I figure I learn n record myself which I did it landed me a job with Bad Boy Entertainment working In their Recording Studio Daddy’s House. I started out as a intern but within a month I was hired I learned so much from that Promotions,Marketing, being a A&R,Engineering. Currently I host an online radio show Live In the Cypher on Wednesdays @9pm on bks1radio.com as well. being a freelance engineer interferes with my music due to all the time it takes but I love what I do and wouldn’t do anything else.
I love it! Gotta respect the grind… So tell me, this is our all female issue, who’s your fab five all time fav females in the entertainment biz?
Ok my favorite females McLyte, she’s my favorite female Mc hands down! Her approach, style, and lyrics to this day is Bananas. Lauryn Hill, her thought process was sooo out the box not to mention she was a triple threat. Also Halle Berry I remember movies like Strictly Business and Gothika, she’s come along way on a very bumpy road. Oprah! Man what can’t I say about Oprah she just that chick. And this is odd but Remy Ma she brought that realness to the game that’s missing her flow her voice and the lyrics! Man I listen to Something About Remy at least twice a week!
Since I’ve been in this business I would have to say my fondest memory to date is…
My first studio session and working at Bad Boy!
Now and days, females in the game…
Need to stick together and take ova instead of having a mentality like there can only be one bad bitch.
The best part about being The HBIC is…
Answering To No one I’m The Boss Baby!!
So what can we expect next from Ms. Nina Foxx?
Music, Music and MORE Music! I’m currently working on my EP and a Mixtape at the same time. I just shot a video to a song called “Got Dudes” I already have a mixtape out New Breed Of Female 16′s Bars& Hooks on datpiff, Itunes and more and more to come.
Well you know I’m stayin tuned! Final note?
